Sitamarhi. Baba Ishannath Temple is situated in the north-east corner at a distance of about 4 kilometres from Belsand sub-divisional headquarters This is the most ancient and famous temple of Sitamarhi district. Being located in Damami village of Lohasi Panchayat, it is also famous by the name of Damami Math. It is also known by the name of Swayambhu Mahadev and Pataleshwar Mahadev.History of the temple: Situated on cremation ground, this temple is said to be older than Ramayana period.It is said that Lord Ram's wedding procession stopped here while returning from Janakpur to Ayodhya. At that time, the Bagmati river used to flow next to the temple. Its remains are still present in the form of Nasi.The bell installed at the main entrance of the temple was installed in Vikram Samvat 1200 by the Mahant of Jaleshwar Dham. The 29th generation of the present Mahant is looking after the temple.
